Cybersecurity Incidents Affect One Fourth of Manufacturers Polled

25% of manufacturers polled for "Collaboration That Works: Cybersecurity for Manufacturing" reported a cybersecurity incident in the past twelve months.

Rebecca Taylor, National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, reports that few manufacturers are prepared to deal with cybersecurity and need to form a plan of response if and when an attack happens.

Taylor made her remarks at The Automation Conference in Chicago two weeks ago. Only 8.5% of respondents to a manufacturing survey reported they were ready to deal with a cyberattack. Your company needs to prepare a response before malware or ransomware hits. What do you tell employees? What to you tell customers? How do you respond to the threats?

“You need to do something today instead of going for the perfect solution in the future,” says Taylor. In other areas, companies don’t do much better. Less than a third provide any cybersecurity training. Only thirty-seven percent perform any intrusion testing. Companies are just becoming aware of the persistent threat level and worry most about employee and customer data, but cyberthreats against your manufacturing operation can shut you down and ruin your brand.
