Airnov: Vial with ADP Technology for Use in Automated Fill Lines

The HAT IN vial with integrated ADP insert is designed to add new capabilities to Airnov’s desiccant vials.

Airnov Healthcare Packaging introduces the HAT IN vial designed to protect diagnostic and nutraceutical products. The vial utilizes Airnov’s advanced desiccant polymer (ADP) technology integrated into the vial itself to provide a high moisture barrier as well as moisture adsorption. The vial is made to be easily integrated into automated filling lines for fast, reliable production.

ADP technology is intended to combine the ease of design and production of plastics with the moisture adsorption properties of desiccants to create a vial lining for moisture-sensitive products such as diagnostic test strips. The ADP material is injected molded to fit snugly in the HAT IN cavity, in order to provide a high barrier to external moisture while also adsorbing moisture on the vial’s headspace. The ergonomic hinged lid is designed to close tight with an audible click to further keep moisture ingress at a minimum. This should protect even high-sensitivity glucose test strips.

These features are also meant to be effective for nutraceuticals, such as probiotics. Molecular sieve packets are widely used throughout the industry to protect these moisture sensitive supplements but require larger bottles due to the volume of desiccant, says the company. The HAT IN vial’s space saving design should protect the same amount of product in a smaller footprint, increasing the number of containers per shipment.

The HAT IN vial is the most recent addition to Airnov’s active and ergonomic vials–joining the HAT SNAP and HAT IN SNAP vials currently available on the market–completing the company’s suite of protective vials for customers in nutraceuticals, diagnostics, and medical devices.

The use of ADP in vials is meant to allow for greater product capacity without the need for drop-in desiccants. With the desiccant embedded in the actual lining of the vial, the risk of dust contamination within the container is reduced. The container is delivered to customers closed, minimizing moisture exposure before being filled and sealed on automated filling lines.
