As you know, each year more states legalize recreational cannabis. A recent Marijuana Business Daily article looked at the effect recreational cannabis has had on state’s pre-existing medical marijuana markets. According to the chart, which includes Colorado, Oregon, Massachusetts, and Nevada, there’s a clear decline in the market after the legalization of recreational. The main contributor seems to be the difference in tax. Medical customers pay the standard tax rate, while recreational customers pay taxes ranging from 10% to 17%.
