Washington Dispensaries Are Offering Free ‘Joints for Jabs’

The promise of free marijuana is enticing Washington residents to get vaccinated.

Some folks need a little more encouragement to get vaccinated for Covid-19, and free marijuana may be the missing link. According to a recent Interesting Engineering article. Washington State will give customers over 21 a free pre-roll cannabis joint when they receive a Covid-19 vaccination shot. The program, called “Joints for Jabs,” was announced last Monday by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis board. It became effective immediately, and will last until July 12th.

According to a New York Times database, 58% of Washington residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 49% are fully vaccinated. When the rate of vaccinations began to slow in mid-April, the board “received multiple requests from cannabis retail licensees to engage in promotions to support state vaccination efforts.” If weed isn’t your cup of tea, the board also approved a free beer, wine, or cocktail to of-age people who get vaccinated before June 30th.
