A recent Politico article noted that Pfizer and its partner BioNTech are seeking full approval from the FDA for their Covid-19 vaccine for people 16 and older. The two-dose protection against coronavirus received emergency use authorization earlier this year, which allowed it to be one of three vaccines used in the pandemic battle. Full approval means the companies would be able to market the shot directly to consumers, and make it easier for schools, employers, and the military to require vaccination against Covid-19.
In addition, Pfizer and BioNTech are also seeking an expansion of their emergency use authorization to allow their shots to be used on people ages 12-15. The U.S. has already bought 400 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, making it the leader in U.S. shots. The companies are now researching vaccine use on children as young as 6 months. Results for this are expected to emerge in September.
