Frontline healthcare workers put themselves at risk to ensure our wellbeing. However, a recent Medgadget article reported on a new robot that aims to decrease human contact during COVID-19 testing. A team of engineers at the University of Southern Denmark created a device that performs automated throat swab tests without the need for human clinicians to be present. The robots reach into patients’ throats and swab the interior tissue, then deposit the swab into a glass jar and screws the top closed.
