What is causing generic drug prices to rise?

Industry experts say supply chain and drug shortages could be to blame.

 

NBC News recently aired a story about the cost of generic drug prices.

They reported in some cases, "nearly half of generic medications increased in price in a year."

So, what is causing this increase?

While some politicians told the network, it is greed, Ralph G. Neas, President and CEO of the Generic Pharmaceutical Association, has a different take.

"It happens sometimes, because there can be drug shortages, there could be supply problems around the world, there could be a whole bunch of market forces," he told the network.
