Terphane (www.terphane.com), a global player in specialty polyester films, announced today that it is the exclusive distributor in the Americas for Toyobo’s environmentally friendly solutions (www.toyobo-global.com). The main focus of the agreement will be the ECOSYAR (transparent high gas barrier film), Toughster (polyester film with toughness to replace ONY), Olyester (heat sealable, dead-fold polyester) and BOPET film made from 80% PCR PET which are made in Japan.

Consumers increasingly demand a high barrier transparent material for packaging. The ECOSYAR film line will allow end-users to develop differentiated packaging that is aligned with consumers’ needs.

This agreement with Toyobo signifies a new phase for Terphane,” said José Bosco Silveira Jr., President of Terphane. We understand that the players in the market, especially brand owners, need partners that participate in all stages of new product development and act with speed to bring innovative packaging to the market. These abilities are even more important in the premium products market.

Mr. Silveira, concluded, Because consumers react to transparent packaging at the moment of purchase with, If I can see the contents of the package, it is because the product is good,” the transparent packaging helps to build and support the brand’s value proposition. And in premium products and brands, a simple windowcan validate the quality expected from the products positioning.

"The agreement is another important step for Toyobo's packaging film business to make our solutions available for our customers globally. I am very pleased that the customers in Americas now have the access to our solutions through Terphane’s

network,” said Hisao Oku, General Manager, Packaging Strategy & Marketing at TOYOBO Co., Ltd.

Technically, the PET film line ECOSYAR is well aligned with market expectations for enviromentally-friendly product by excluding chlorine in its formulation. Ceramic elements that are used guarantee film barrier properties and eliminate the use of PVDC, aluminum deposition and lamination with aluminum foil and other barrier materials that can compromise post-consumption recycling. In addition, the stability in the production process guarantees the stability of film barrier properties during the conversion process and on the store shelves. The possibility of producing thinner packages can reduce the generation of waste. ECOSYAR is safe for microwave oven use.

ECOSYAR is recommended for food packaging (dry, wet, pre-cooked meals, cooking in the pouch, soups, etc.) and non-food packaging (medicines, industrial products, chemicals, personal care and beauty products, etc.). The material is available for testing by Terphane ́s customers.
