"Packaging for e-commerce direct-to-consumers" is a two-day program that will address three areas where e-commerce is beginning to have significant impact: on packaging structures, materials and functionality; on packaging brand communication; and on order picking, packing and shipping.

The first two areas will be discussed June 8. Representatives from Smithkline Beecham, NextPak, Pactiv, Sealed Air and paperexchange.com are among those scheduled to make presentations that day. Order picking, packing and shipping is the focus June 9, with speakers scheduled from Freshnex, Federal Express and United Parcel Service. Each of the three panel sessions will conclude with discussions involving audience participation.

The program's keynote speaker is Alex Zelikovsky, vice president and chief logistics officer at a San Francisco-based business that markets women's beauty products exclusively on its Web site.

Michigan State University's School of Packaging will host the program, which is sponsored by Packaging World. Joe Kornick, principal at KornickLindsay (Chicago, IL), a packaging design and development firm, will chair the program. For more information, contact Dr. Robert LaMoreaux at MSU, 517/355-3603.
