According to a recent ABC15 Arizona article, we could soon have access to a pill that treats COVID-19 thanks to Merck & Co. You’ve likely heard of Remdesivir, the FDA-approved antiviral injection for COVID. Well, the molecule in Merck’s new drug is said to be more effective, and easier to distribute because it’s in pill form, as opposed to a shot.
Jun Wang, an associate professor at the University of Arizona, said the clinical trials results for the experimental antiviral drug were promising. Merck’s drug has already passed the phase one safety test, and is currently in phase two and three combined trials. It could be available as early as this summer.
