A recent Medgadget article discussed the latest development in the world of catheters. If that concept doesn’t excite you, you’re probably too young to know how common urinary issues are later in life. Or that patients with urinary retention could use up to 200 disposable catheters in a month. The device in question is a wireless smart catheter called the IntelliFlow Bladder Management System from Minneapolis-based UroDev Medical.
The IntelliFlow lets patients control their bladder with the push of a button on a remote control. It consists of a magnetic valve pump that can be opened for urination and a pump that actively dispels urine from the bladder. The article also contains an interview with UroDev’s President and CEO Matt Monarski.
