A recent Medgadget article discussed the long-awaited European approval of a cuffless blood pressure monitor from Swiss-based Aktiia. The device looks a lot like a watch, and monitors the wearer’s blood pressure 24/7. The kit also comes with access to a smartphone app that gathers and stores blood pressure data, providing insights into how different variables such as diet, exercise, and medications affect blood pressure.
After 15 years of research and development, 5 clinical trials, and 20+ peer-reviewed papers, the cuff-free monitor has received the coveted CE Mark as a Class IIa medical device in Europe, but is still awaiting FDA clearance in the U.S. A video with more info can be seen here.
