A recent article from thepharmaletter discussed the latest innovations in child-resistant pharmaceutical packaging. Written by Rich Quelch, global head of marketing at Origin Pharma Packaging, the article contains of his view on industry trends designed to protect children. He notes ziplock bags that can be easily opened by adults, but difficult to children due to the advanced dexterity required to slide the zipper open. Blister packs have also been reimagined to include child-resistance features. He also notes that counterfeit drugs are commonly sold in sub-standard packaging that doesn’t meet child resistant standards. The solution to which is digital mass serialization to combat counterfeiting.
