Runway Worthy Medical Devices

Fashion icon to help design life-saving wearable devices.

Wearable medical devices are getting a design upgrade, but this time it's from a fashion icon who is giving life-saving devices a runway look.

Iris Apfel is teaming up with WiseWear to not only be the face of the brand, but to also design an upcoming collection herself, reported Fast Company.

Like many wearables, WiseWear's devices track fitness, but what makes them different is their ability to send a distress signal to contacts if the person wearing it has a problem. All the person has to do is tap the bracelet three times.

Another difference, and what is drawing attention from the runway, is that it also looks like jewelry. The patented antenna technology is embedded in sleek, metal jewelry that women can wear.

"We’re the first to truly fuse fashion and technology," said Jerry Wilmink, the company's founder.
