FDA expected to 'meet or exceed' trial approval deadlines

The self-imposed deadline is expected to help advance medical technology by approving trails faster.

The Deputy Director for Science at the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health told the Boston Business Journal the agency is on track to "meet or exceed" their own deadline for approving trials and medical devices.

"We want patients in the U.S. to have access first in the world to the best technology," Bill Maisel told the Journal. "That means timely approval of trials."

His comments came during, and after, a speech to members of MassMEDIC, a state advocacy group for the medical device industry.

In the past three years the agency has reduced the length of time it takes from making an application to a decision by 75 percent, he told the Journal.
