As a leading contract manufacturer and developer, Rottendorf Pharma GmbH offers comprehensive services for the international pharmaceutical industry – from the development of formulations to the production, analysis and packaging of oral solid pharmaceutical drugs.

Due to the significant increase in demand for CDMO services, Rottendorf Pharma will expand its packaging capabilities by a new building, which is set to be completed in 2022. When it comes to equipment, Rottendorf Pharma places particular importance on having reliable machines and offering a fast service which ensures “on-time” delivery to its customers all over the world. This is why Rottendorf has opted for Uhlmann Pac-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG. The company is currently completing a major order for the delivery of five pharmaceutical packaging lines: four BEC 300 blister lines and one Integrated Bottle Center (IBC).

The BEC 300 is a compact combination of a blister and cartoning module. Its strength lies in fast changes from one product to the next in less than 30 minutes. This enables contract manufacturers to economically package a wide range of small and medium batches on a single line. The fact that only a few format parts are required also suits Rottendorf Pharma. "We hold around 15,000 format parts in stock at our German locations with a view to being able to pack a wide variety of solid products. Lines with few format parts are easier to manage. However, we invest in the original format parts from Uhlmann because we have had good experience with them," reports Niklas Bicker, packaging plant engineer at Rottendorf Pharma. The company has been working with Uhlmann since the early 1980s and already has three BEC 300s and one BEC 500 in operation.

In addition to the positive experience with the existing lines, several other factors tipped the scales in favor of Uhlmann. "We expect a good occupancy rate for our new building. That's why we need lines like the BEC 300 and the IBC that are absolutely stable and reliable. In addition, fast service is important so that we can quickly get back into production in the event of unplanned shutdowns. We have found both at Uhlmann," says Rottendorf Managing Director Dr. Silke Huster.

Uhlmann is pleased with the success of Rottendorf Pharma and the collaborative partnership within the framework of this major order. "Rottendorf Pharma operates to very high standards and requires state-of-the-art equipment and first-class production facilities to do so. The fact that Uhlmann's lines play such a major role here makes us all very proud," explains CSO Michael Mrachacz.
