According to a recent Independent article, you can kill mosquitos with your blood, and it could save lives. A drug called ivermectin is the key; it poisons mosquitos when they feed on blood. A team of researchers at Colorado State University is conducting trials to determine if the drug can help curb the spread of malaria in rural Burkina Faso. Results showed that the method reduced malaria cases among children by 20% in the eight villages.

The study provided proof of principle that ivermectin, which has been used to treat other parasites, is a feasible option for reducing cases of malaria without side effects. It’s the ultimate “fool me once” scenario in the man vs. mosquito saga.
