Summit Media Group, publisher of Packaging World, Healthcare Packaging, and Automation World, will produce The Automation Conference at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare on May 14-15, 2013. This year’s event will feature technology end-users, academics, and experts presenting two days of technology-infused education for packaging, engineering, and other manufacturing professionals. Attendees will learn from case histories that illustrate how today’s technologies drive processing and packaging line efficiencies.

Perrigo Company—one of the world’s largest manufacturers of private-label pharmaceutical products—will be presenting a session on their automated, wireless method of bringing packaging materials to their packaging lines. Through the use of Motorola mobile devices, SAP’s ERP infrastructure and automated guided vehicles from JBT, Perrigo has enjoyed a wealth of benefits, which will be detailed at this year’s conference.

Perrigo refers to itself online as “a leading global healthcare supplier that develops, manufactures, and distributes over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals, nutritional products, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and consumer products. Perrigo’s primary markets and locations of manufacturing facilities are in the U.S., Israel, Mexico, and the U.K.”

Also presenting will be PepsiCo’s Factory Floor Automation Operations Manager, Jeff Russell, who will share his direct experience integrating plant floor automation and enterprise IT systems at PepsiCo.

More than 20 educational sessions offer insights for industry professionals on topics such as: Why Cloud Computing is Coming to Your Manufacturing Workplace; Energy Efficiency as a Manufacturing Strategy; Selecting a System Integrator; How Embedded Technologies are Changing Automation; Top-level Automation Cyber Security Issues; and Automation Apps and the Mobile Manufacturing Workforce.

This year’s conference content partners are: global food and beverage manufacturer PepsiCo; Altera Corp., a leading manufacturer of programmable semiconductors and related products; the Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology at UC Berkeley, which works with new technology start-ups and established manufacturers to develop and test the next generation of automation technologies; and the Control System Integrators Assn. (CSIA), a global professional association of firms that integrate plant equipment and automate manufacturing processes. Also presenting is plastics and chemical producer Nova Chemicals, and other manufacturers of consumer and industrial products to be announced.
