Invensify, Inc., Santa Clara, California, has introduced a power-efficient, temperature-controlled shipping container designed to maintain stable storage temperatures for high-value pharmaceuticals before and during transport to last-mile cold chain destinations.

Marketed as Insuridge™, the refrigerator complies with FDA Title 21 CFR guidelines for pharmaceuticals and helps ensure temperature uniformity and data integrity with no prior experience required for use.

The refrigerator is a semiconductor-controlled alternative to passive shippers using dry ice or phase-change materials. It does not use compressors, refrigerants or gases. It is reusable, easy to use, programmable and stackable. Multiple units can be staged at distribution points and deployed using internal battery power without interrupting the cooling function.

Insuridge uses a patented, solid-state cooling system that operates on an internal 30Wh battery pack charged by standard 115V or 220V, AC electrical service. Engineered for sustainability, the refrigerator contains an integrated power supply and maintains stable temperatures for days without recharging. A cellular GPS function permits continuous remote control and monitoring of location, temperature and system performance. Transmitted data is captured in cloud database with secure subscription access so that customers can track it through the cold chain.

Features of the refrigerated shipper include:

  • Three temperature ranges: -10°C to 0°C, 2°C to 8°C, 20°C to 25°C for pre-conditioning and transport
  • Nominal >100-hour temperature maintenance between 2-8c (ISTA 7E)
  • Reduced energy consumption, <0.24 kWh per day
  • Microprocessor control with digital display
  • Five-hour charge time via 115V AC to ready status
  • Robust construction, 12-liter payload
  • Firmware with LTE, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity with customer app

Applications include logistics for clinical trials, specialty pharmaceuticals, vaccine distribution, biological specimen collection and transport, brownfield and well site core sample security, and short-term storage.
