Kratom Powder Probably Shouldn’t Contain Salmonella

A Portland-based aromatics company has recalled kratom-containing powder products due to Salmonella contamination.

A March 12th FDA MedWatch article noted the recall of “kratom-containing powder products” after it was discovered that there’s a possibility the product has been contaminated with Salmonella. The product was distributed by PDX Aromatics, which you could probably guess is based in Portland, Oregon. The company also does business under the names Kraken Kratom, Phytoextractum, and Soul Speciosa.

The company has traced the contamination to a supplier in their supply chain, and has removed that supplier and all associated products from its facility. Salmonella causes fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting in healthy people, but can cause fatal infections in children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. More information and photos of the affected products can be found in this press release.
