This Molecule Combats 300+ Drug-Resistant Bacteria

Researchers believe fabimycin could be used to treat conditions like pneumonia, urinary tract infections and bloodstream infections.

Multidrug Resistant Bacteria

There are certain bacteria, such as gram-negative bacteria, that are difficult to treat due to their strong defense systems. This includes tough cell walls that are resistant to antibiotics and pumps that force antibiotics that do penetrate the cell walls out. On top of that, they can mutate to avoid drugs. The good news is, a recent EurekAlert! article discussed a new molecule that inhibited drug-resistant bacteria in lab tests. It did so in experiments on mice with pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
