DEA Warns of Counterfeit Pills Laced with Fentanyl

The DEA issued a Public Safety Alert warning consumers of fake prescription pills.

A recent Fox LA article contained scary information about counterfeit drugs in the Los Angeles vicinity. The DEA issued a Public Safety Alert early last week warning Americans of counterfeit prescription pills that were found to contain fentanyl and methamphetamine. The drug ingredients were manufactured in China and India before being shipped to Mexico for production in the underground criminal drug network. They were then packaged as legitimate drugs such as Oxycodone, Percocet, or Xanax.

The article goes in-depth on some of the challenges pharmaceutical companies face combatting counterfeiters, but the rule of thumb is: unless you purchase drugs from a pharmacy, assume they’re laced with dangerous ingredients.
