A recent Miami Herald article discussed the recall of a weight loss drug found to contain an illegal ingredient linked to heart attacks. The one lot of Lipodrene w/25mg Ephedra Extract Dietary Supplement contained DMAA, which is illegal to market according to the FDA. DMAA narrows blood vessels and arteries, which increases blood pressure and can cause cardiovascular problems such as shortness of breath, arrhythmias, and heart attack. Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of the product, issued the recall notice and is investigating the issues.
