According to a recent Medgadget article, contact lenses are about to get a lot more advanced. A team of researchers at the Terasaki Institute in Los Angeles have developed a hydrogel lens that can improve tear flow to prevent dry eye disease, and also use the tears for diagnostics. The lens has tiny microchannels that guide tears to testing chambers containing electrochemical and colorimetric tests that evaluate sodium and pH levels.
