A recent CNN article discussed the finale in the Purdue Pharma lawsuit seeking responsibility for the company’s role in the opioid crisis. The privately held maker of OxyContin will plead guilty to three federal crime charges, and pay more than $8 billion before closing down the company. Since Purdue doesn’t have $8 billion in cash, it will dissolve and its assets will go toward the creation of a new “public benefit company” controlled by a trust that will be used to fight the opioid crisis.
