Because COVID-19 can easily spread via asymptomatic carriers, rapid testing is crucial to ending the pandemic. A recent EurekAlert! article discussed a new COVID test that aims to do just that. The low-cost multiplexed test was developed at Caltech, and it could enable easy at-home diagnoses by analyzing small amounts of saliva or blood. The best part is that you don’t need a medical professional to administer the test, and it takes less than 10 minutes.

The test has only been tested in a lab with a small sample size, but preliminary results indicate the sensor is highly accurate. The team’s goal is for in-home use after further testing and regulatory approval.
