A recent Reuters article discussed the latest development in convicting those behind the U.S. opioid crisis. John Kapoor, the founder of Insys Therapeutics Inc, and four of his colleagues were found guilty of bribing doctors to prescribe their addictive painkillers. In this case it was Subsys, a fentanyl spray intended to treat severe cancer pain.

The payments were disguised as compensation for speaking at sham events. In another instance, Sunrise Lee, a former stripper turned Insys regional sales director performed a lap dance on a doctor at a club in Chicago while encouraging him to prescribe Subsys. The accused involved face 20 years in prison, but deny any wrongdoing and will likely appeal.
