A recent article from The Gleaner noted the inaugural shipment of medicinal marijuana from Jamaica to Canada. The Government of Canada issued the import permit, and the Ministry of Health in Jamaica issued the export counterpart. This step marks the beginning of Jamaica’s attempt to establish itself as a global player in the medical marijuana market.
The fist shipment contained extracted oil that was cultivated and extracted at Timeless Herbal Care’s facilities in Jamaica. The company works with a range of partners including small farmers, local communities, and the University of Technology.
Audley Shaw, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries said, “Jamaica is uniquely positioned to be a global player and we are committed to providing the leadership and resources required for opening the international markets including Canada and Europe for our licensed and regulated Jamaican companies.”
