Bemis North America, part of Bemis Company, Inc., has been honored by the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) for the Hunt's Recipe Ready tomato paste pouch. The package has received five 2017 Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards including: Highest Achievement Award ("Best in Show"); Gold - Extending the Use of Flexible Packaging; Gold - Packaging Excellence; Gold - Sustainability; and Silver - Printing and Shelf Impact.

Hunt's Recipe Ready tomato paste pouch delivers a convenient alternative to the traditional six ounce tomato paste can. The new format meets changing consumer demographics and lifestyles by providing a convenient, portion-controlled two tablespoon serving of tomato paste. Consumers simply tear, dispense, and toss.

The lightweight alternative to the six ounce can delivers equal performance with less material and less weight. In addition, the smaller, premeasured portion means consumers can avoid food waste due to unused paste.

According to IPN Consulting, flexible materials take half the resources to manufacture and produce than cans. Recent studies show that when compared to rigid containers, pouches improve product-to-package ratio by up to 35:1, and decrease CO2 emissions by up to 93%.1

The awards were accepted by William Jackson, senior vice president and chief technology officer of Bemis Company, at the FPA awards ceremony in Boca Raton, Florida on March 1, 2017. This year, 75 package entries were submitted for competition, with a total of 152 entries in all categories. In addition, 19 packages were honored with 29 FPA Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards.
