In 1985, EXPO PACK México launched with 20 exhibitors and 1,000 net square feet. Thirty years later, owner and producer PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, predicts over 1,000 exhibiting companies, more than 18,700 net square meters of exhibit space and at least 26,000 visitors at EXPO PACK México 2015 (Centro Banamex, Mexico City; June 16–19).
“The small packaging show of the 1980s has evolved! Today, EXPO PACK México is an event for Latin America,” says Gerardo Barajas, director, EXPO PACK México. “Visitors attend to see the latest international technologies and innovative solutions for their processing and packaging operations. Today’s EXPO PACK México is one of the most important processing and packaging events in Latin America.”
PMMI expects EXPO PACK México 2015 to attract similar demographics to the 2014 edition: professionals with buying power — two-thirds (67 percent) influence buying decisions, and 29 percent are company CEOs, presidents or owners. Just 10 years ago, only 37 percent of visitors had that level of purchasing authority, Barajas points out.
The food and beverage industry — a $1.4 billion market — accounted for 12 percent of Mexico’s gross domestic manufacturing product and 4 percent of the overall gross domestic product in 2013. As such, it is a key market for EXPO PACK México, but the pharmaceutical, personal care, graphic arts, chemical, electronics, textiles and automotive sectors are an important part of the show as well.
“Today’s marketplace is globalized, and that increased level of competition makes innovative processing and packaging solutions more important than ever for brand success in any industry. EXPO PACK México brings the supply chain together, so end users and suppliers can easily connect to find what they need,” says Barajas.
