3C! Packaging, an independent privately-owned pharmaceutical packaging solutions company specializing in the design and manufacture of custom folding cartons, printed literature, inserts/outserts, labels/foils and unit dose compliance packaging, is celebrating 35 years in business by introducing enhanced printed foil lidding for blisters, as well as printed foils with extruded plastics for sachets.
By integrating the cutting edge 13” FB-3300, 6 color Servo Flexo Press from Nilpeter, 3C! Packaging is running a broad range of multi-substrate packaging materials while specializing in thin-gauged films. Servo control on press and finishing equipment is critical to maintain extremely tight registration and control tension during production. Chill Rollers at each color station enables 3C! to regulate temperature of flexible material, minimizing film stretch as well as diminishing pre-activation of the Heat Seal Coatings during the printing process. Accordingly, 3C! employed a Servo CEI rewinder into their finishing process to further aid with web control during final rewind of the finished rolls.
Maintaining the highest quality possible, a commitment 3C! has upheld for 35 years, was priority when integrating this new product line. The integration of the closed loop Vision Systems emphasizes 3C!s attention to detail, which has always been a staple in 3C!’s quality and success for 31 years. With full web Vision Systems on the presses any compromised copy will be detected while simultaneously flags material defects.
3C! Packaging originally opened in May of 1979 as Colonial Carton Company. Its beginnings were humble indeed: business formerly began with a lone $600 hand-fed die cutter performing small-scale commercial production of unprinted cartons. The company steadily grew in spite of several challenges, including a massive fire in 2005 that destroyed most of its then-75,000-square-foot manufacturing facility. Along the way, it declined several opportunities to become publicly traded, instead preferring to retain the optimum client-servicing efficiency afforded executives at a privately-held enterprise.
Today, 3C! Packaging is headquartered in a state-of-the-art 114,000 sq.ft. production facility, where it manufactures a broad range of folding cartons, labels, inserts and flexible packaging solutions, primarily for (but not exclusively to) pharmaceutical industry customers. The company’s growth was gradual at first but, in recent years, has increased with greater momentum. By 2011, 3C Packaging had enjoyed five years of consecutive, double-digit year-over-year growth. During that same period, the company had bulked up its roster of packaging equipment with new presses, feeders, folders, insert placing machines, and even opened a remote showroom in Philadelphia for the benefit of its customers in the Northeast Corridor.
Most recently, 3C Packaging became one of just a handful of North American packaging providers to successfully complete the prestigious PANTONE Certified Printer Program, the only printer certification program that audits, inspects, analyzes and qualifies all operations to meet Pantone’s lofty quality standards – from creative and ink mixing to print production and customer satisfaction management. Applicants undergo a rigorous certification process that includes a full week of on-site assessment, throughout which 3C! Packaging demonstrated PANTONE’s heightened standards for competence in the print production process, displaying exemplary abilities to use instrumentation, software and process control to measure, communicate and correct color.
