Sterile Barrier Association launches new website

The Sterile Barrier (SBA) is delighted to announce the launch of its brand new website at www.sterile barrier.org.

This content was written and submitted by the supplier. It has only been modified to comply with this publication’s space and style.

The association represents around 80% of the European manufacturers of sterile barrier packaging which protects medical devices and keeps them free from contamination after manufacturing and sterilisation until the point of use.

With separate sections for Medical Device Manufacturers, Healthcare Professionals and the General Public, the website provides general and specialist information on the journey of a sterile medical device including the choice of different types of packaging and packaging equipment, sterilisation techniques and the issues surrounding contamination by bacteria and viruses. It also contains links to other related websites and useful videos on YouTube.

The SBA is an associate member of Eucomed, the European Medical Device Manufacturers Association and is active on such issues as the drafting of sterile barrier packaging regulations and providing feedback on the plans for a new Medical Device Directive. The SBA also funds the secretariat for CEN TC102 WG4. This work group is responsible for preparing standards for single use and reusable packaging materials for the sterilization of wrapped goods which will maintain sterility of goods in transit and storage and will facilitate the aseptic presentation of goods at the point of use.

Chairman Bernhard Schilling said "I am delighted with the look and feel of our new website which is a valuable tool for all those active in the area of sterile barrier packaging and its use with medical devices. Our industry is an important link in the provision of quality healthcare and we hope that users will find the website full of helpful information to protect the patient"
