CINCINNATI, Ohio – Dec. 19, 2012 -- xpedx®, the leading business-to-business distribution company in North America, has been awarded the ENERGY STAR at its locations in Dallas, Grand Rapids, Mich., Nashville, Tenn. and Pewaukee, Wis. xpedx, an “ENERGY STAR partner,” set a goal to earn the certification in nine of its facilities within 2012, and has surpassed that mark with 10 facilities recognized this year.

xpedx’s Dallas, Nashville, Grand Rapids and Pewaukee sites earned the ENERGY STAR by scoring in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency, based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s energy performance rating system. These buildings use less energy, are less expensive to operate, meet strict energy performance standards and cause fewer greenhouse gas emissions than peer facilities.

David Wallace, xpedx’s director, Sustainability, said xpedx’s work with ENERGY STAR is an important part of its company-wide commitment to responsible stewardship of natural resources. “xpedx has now surpassed its goal for certifying ENERGY STAR facilities for the second straight year, further validating our commitment to become a more sustainable business,” he said.

The four newly certified xpedx sites combined have more than 625,000 square feet of space. Chris Tow is the division manager in the Dallas location. “xpedx works with our customers to increase sustainable operations for our facilities and theirs,” he said. “The ENERGY STAR partnership validates our continued efforts to lower our costs and save energy.”

In addition to the four new sites, xpedx in 2012 has also earned the ENERGY STAR at its distribution centers in Fairfield, Ohio; Hayward, Calif.; Las Vegas, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, and Reno, Nev. The combined area of the 10 xpedx locations that have qualified for the ENERGY STAR in 2012 is more than 1.5 million square feet.

As an “ENERGY STAR partner,” xpedx is tracking its energy consumption and improving its operating costs through energy saving strategies. xpedx has also committed to highlight its achievements as recognized by ENERGY STAR, support the ENERGY STAR challenge to improve the energy efficiency of America’s commercial and industrial buildings by at least 10 percent and spread the word about the importance of energy efficiency to its employees and communities where it operates.

xpedx is also renewing ENERGY STAR qualification in 2012 in 10 additional facilities that earned the mark before this year. ENERGY STAR is just one element in xpedx’s overall sustainability strategy.
