Under the agreement, Packaging Graphics will utilize MeadWestvaco's Natralock technology to manufacture and market theft-deterrent packaging products in North America until the year 2015.

Packaging Graphics has had a licensing agreement with Meadwestvaco for Natralock since 2007. Since that time, the company has produced Natralock packaging for customers in almost every retail market, including home and personal care, cosmetics, electronics and office products.

“Our customers were looking for a more user-friendly packaging for consumers that provided the product security required by retailers.” Said Nick Carafa, president of Packaging Graphics, “Natralock serves us in both respects, and it lends itself well to the print process, so we can achieve the bold graphics that make packaging effective in the retail environment”.

Natralock security packaging features a proprietary tear-resistant paperboard that can be RF-sealed, with approximately one-third the energy required for plastic clamshells, or heat-sealed on most existing equipment. Offered in both SBS and CNK® grades, Natralock paperboard can include 30% to 50% recycled content, is a renewable, easy-to-recycle material that reduces the use of plastic by 50% to 60% and provides superior price stability. The glare-free billboard can be custom designed to differentiate consumer products and supports high quality reproduction for bolder graphics and special printing effects to enhance branding. Consumers prefer Natralock packaging's safer opening and improved shopping experience compared to often injurious struggles with sharp-edged plastic clamshells.

Companies using Natralock packaging have been able to reduce their use of plastic packaging, enabling them to be environmentally responsible, while still developing packaging that has impact.
