Efficiency, sustainability, quality. The future of the pharmaceutical industry showcased at Pharmintech in May

Pharmintech, on stage at Bolognafiere from May 12th to 14th, is set to be the reference event of 2010 for drug producers.

The exhibition will showcase the pharmaceutical-related industries, the feather in Italy's cap which, according to the first data gathered by the Pharmintech Observatory, is past the difficulties generated by the crisis and is now getting ready for recovery by employing extremely cut-edge technological solutions. Having overcome the effects of the crisis considerably better than other industries, it is time to leave 2009 behind.

Bologna will welcome internationally renowned personalities from the pharmaceutical world who will take part in the events being held beginning on the eve of the official opening.

On May 11th Ipack-Ima spa is planning an introductory event of great technical and scientific relevance in cooperation with two major trade associations: ISPE (the leading worldwide association of pharmaceutical professionals) and PDA (the prestigious international body dealing with the development, quality monitoring and regulation of pharmaceutical products).

It is the international convention "Designing quality, efficiency and sustainability into pharmaceutical processes", featuring the participation of world-class experts including Sabine Atzor (European Commission, Belgium), Martin Van Trieste (Amgen, USA), Beppe Mazzocchi (Merck & Co, Italy), Werner Gerber (FFS University, Switzerland), Christine Mitchell-Logean (Merck-Serono, Switzerland), Marcello Pasquazzo (Sanofi-Aventis, Italy), Luca Arrighi (Foster Wheeler Italiana), Ulla Thomsen (Novo Nordisk, Denmark), Lars Munkøe (Exima, Italy), Marzio Mercuri (PolPharma, Poland), Federico Brugnoli (Icimsi/Supsi, Switzerland), Luigi Basso (Climaveneta, Italy).

On May 12th, following Pharmintech's official opening, the Third Report by the Pharmintech Observatory will put the focus on the role, state and economic importance of the segments supplying the pharmaceutical, personal care and nutraceutical industry in Italy. The Observatory is a research project supported by Ipack-Ima spa and led by CNR (National Research Council) researcher and Gruppo Economisti d'Impresa secretary Giampaolo Vitali.

Outsourcing of highly specialized processes is one of the most rapidly growing trends in the pharmaceutical industry. The Contract Manufacturers Group, established last year within Farmindustria, will relate on the importance and evolution of this phenomenon during its workshop "The current status of contract production in Italy", scheduled for May 13th.

On May 14th, the last day of the exhibition, there will be yet another highly specialized event organized by the Italian Packaging Institute, whose mission is creating business opportunities through the cooperation of all the segments of the packaging chain. The round table discussion "Drugs and medical devices: the new frontiers of packaging" will feature speeches by renowned specialists in medical device and drug manufacturing with the participation of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (the leading technical and scientific body of the Italian National Health Service) dealing with the enforcement of the strict regulations regarding these processes.

"Pharmintech's double role as a technological showcase and a meeting place for international pharmaceutical experts makes this exhibition a one-of-a-kind event in Europe - says Ipack-Ima Spa CEO Guido Corbella -. The organizational process of the third edition clearly shows that Pharmintech is now a well-established, highly valued event. Today the exhibition is deeply rooted in the international pharmaceutical business community - states Corbella -, as shown by the patronage coming from all the main trade associations and organizations, including Farmindustria".
