Two new symbols we'll be seeing on packaging in the future are those developed by The 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA-100%), New York, NY, and the Gravure Assn.

of America (GAA), Rochester, NY. The new symbol from RPA-100% is an update of the "chasing arrows" pioneered by the industry more than 25 years ago. GAA's new symbol incorporates the cylinder and doctor blades used in gravure printing to form a "G" for gravure. Designed by Kory Kavanaugh, a senior at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS, the design was the first choice out of 25 entries screened by GAA judges. After the image was sketched by hand, Kavanaugh produced it on Illustrator 6.0 on a Macintosh.
