Preventing medication errors with plain language labeling

The new labeling requirements for Canadian drugs go into effect this month and are aimed at preventing adverse drug reactions

Set to take effect on June 13, Health Canada released new guidance on their plain language labeling requirements, the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society reported.

The new labeling requirements, will first impact only prescription drugs, including biologics and radiopharmaceuticals. Non-prescription drugs must be in compliance by June of 2017.

It doesn't not, however include medical devices, veterinary medicines, or natural health products.

The regulations are aimed at making labels and packaging easier to understand, prevent medication errors and adverse drug reactions.
