• United Drug plc acquired Sharp Corp. for $99 million. "Sharp is a quality and compliance leader in pharmaceutical contract packaging in the United States and will fit extremely well with our existing contract packaging operations that provide services to the same client base in most major markets in Europe," said Liam FitzGerald, United Drug's chief executive.

• Amcor Flexibles opened a new $5 million, 25,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility at AF Sligo, Ireland, with new printing, pouch-making, and slitting equipment.

• Rockwell Automation expanded the application development capabilities of its FactoryTalk ProductionCentre software to help users build, deploy, and scale manufacturing production applications across multiple sites.

• Tekni-Plex opened an office in New Delhi, India in June for Tekni-Plex, India Ltd.

• YottaMark Inc.'s new address is 1400 Bridge Parkway, Suite 101, Redwood City, CA 94065.

• Outlook Group Corp. expanded its contract packaging and contract manufacturing business lines by forming a Contract Packaging Group.

• Germany's August Faller KG and Canada's BellWyck Packaging Solutions formed a strategic alliance.

• Stora Enso signed the first Pharma DDS packaging solution license agreements in the U.S. and Europe. Sharp Corp. and Stora Enso will partner in the contract packaging of pharmaceutical products into Pharma DDS cartons.

• Videojet Technologies Inc.'s Web site, www.videojet.com/trackandtrace, provides information for protecting brands from counterfeiting, diversion, and product recalls through track-and-trace safeguards.

• Services Industries, LLC, a supplier to pharmaceutical packaging companies, entered into a distributor relationship with the Mario A. Cricca company of Argentina.

• Pro Mach, Inc., a provider of integrated packaging products, acquired Labeling Systems, Inc., a supplier of pressure-sensitive labeling equipment.

• Pliant Corp. announced a continuation of its capital investment program for its Canadian operations. Pliant Canada plans to expand in a variety of product areas, including medical and personal care.

• Packaging supplier TricorBraun expanded and enhanced its operation in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

• MeadWestvaco Corp. and India-based Bilcare Ltd. announced the joint acquisition of pharmaceutical packaging company International Labs.

• Dow, a diversified chemical company, acquired Rohm and Haas, a provider of technologies and solutions for the specialty materials industry.

• Bosch Packaging Technology opened a manufacturing facility in Goa, India.

• ESS Technologies, Inc., specialists in packaging line design and integration, expanded its sales focus to include Mexico and Costa Rica.

• Germany-based Fresenius SE purchased generic drug maker APP Pharmaceuticals.

Klöckner Pentaplast was honored with the 2007 Wyeth Award for 100 percent supplier performance.

Sonoco received chain-of-custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.

Gooding Co., Inc., a specialty printer of inserts and outserts for pharmaceutical and medical device industries, was inducted into the New York State Small Business Development Hall of Fame.

The Scent Marketing Institute honored Steven M. Landau, CTO/CMO of ScentSational Technologies, with a SMItty Award "for groundreaking work on scented and flavored packaging technologies for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and other consumer products."

The Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society honored its inaugural class of Fellows-27 in all-for their accomplishments in the healthcare product regulatory field.

Bosch Packaging Technology appointed Pres Lawhon president and gm of Doboy, Inc.

Randy Spahr was hired as Goodman Packaging Equipment's executive vp.

Ken Sullivan joined Delkor Systems Inc. as director of marketing.

Jeff Murak was promoted to vp of marketing and sales at Oliver Medical.

Catalent Pharma Solutions appointed Victor Dixon as vp and gm for the Printed Components business of its Packaging Services segment, and Brian McCarthy as vp of business development for that segment.

DMI expanded its Technical Services Dept. by hiring Douglas Melenkevitz as manufacturing and technical services manager, Christopher Gates, process engineer, and Krystle Spinner as junior process development engineer. DMI also appointed Alan Verduin director of operations and Larry Stanchina director of quality assurance.

Jay Scripter was named O-I's vp of sustainability.

Multivac appointed Dan Mack product manager, FormShrink and vacuum skin packaging systems, and announced that Brandon White will assume responsibility for the Northeast U.S. territory, following the retirement of Marty Moscowitz.

Catherine E. Irish was appointed human resources director at Multisorb Technologies. ...NanoInk appointed former U.S. Sen. Daniel Coats to its Board of Directors.

Brad Hardwick was named vp of engineering at T.H.E.M.

Patrick Schmid was appointed marketing director, Hapa AG.

SATO America appointed Dennis Garis senior firmware engineer.

The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute named Jason Bian director of its China office in Shanghai. PMMI noted that vp, finance, Craig Silverio was elected chairman of the Finance and Administration Roundtable.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America named Chris Singer president of the International Section, Diane Bieri executive vp and general counsel, Chris Badgley senior vp for Government and Public Affairs, Brian Toohey, senior vp, International Affairs, Jeff May, vp, International Affairs, and Bryant Hall, senior vp, Federal Affairs. Alan Gilbert will leave PhRMA Jan. 1 to start his own consulting firm.

Eastman Chemical Co. named Damon C. Warmack vp and gm, Performance Chemicals and Intermediates (PCI), and Brad Lich, vp and gm, Coatings, Adhesives, Specialty Polymers and Inks (CASPI).

Klaus Kleinfeld was elected president and CEO by Alcoa's Board of Directors.
