A Blend of Old-World Tradition with Modern HMI/SCADA

A comprehensive winery digital solution from Omnia Technologies, built on Emerson software, is empowering winemakers to achieve significant quality and efficiency gains in this traditionally manual industry.

Even old-world arts such as winemaking must evolve with some new-world digitalization technologies to gain batch/product tracking, quality enhancements, energy and sustainability improvements, and other management benefits.

Winemaking may be one of the world’s oldest crafts, but today’s producers face new demands unheard of centuries ago—stringent traceability, energy efficiency, and precise process control. While larger operations have been able to utilize modern production methods, the task of adopting automation has long seemed out of reach for many small and medium wineries. That is beginning to change with the introduction of i-Get Winery, a comprehensive digital platform from Omnia Technologies Group. This solution is built on Emerson’s Movicon HMI/SCADA software.

Traditional wineries have depended heavily on manual production and recordkeeping. While artisanal methods create quality wines, they can cause inefficiencies, inconsistent results, and limited traceability. For wineries facing rising regulatory demands and increasing customer expectations, the need for a scalable, cost-effective automation solution became evident.

“The brands of Omnia Technologies group provide technologies supporting the full winemaking process,” said Enrico Zanusso, Head of Automation and Iot– Processing Divisionat Omnia Technologies.

Processing vessels and piping transport wine to bottling and labeling operations. At the end of the line, carton-forming machines create cases which are packed with bottles and palletized. Clean-in-place (CIP) systems are used to maintain sanitation, and wineries also operate water treatment plants.
