Ampac introduces Flexi FoilFree HB, a new ultra-high barrier film technology that, when incorporated in a laminate, can achieve moisture, oxygen, and vapor barrier properties approaching aluminum foil laminates without the use of foil.

Flexi FoilFree HB barrier laminates provide excellent product performance characteristics.Flex-crack and puncture-resistance properties are significantly improved in Flexi FoilFree HB composites, which also provide easy “tear-open” properties. Flexi FoilFree HB barrier laminates provide a more sustainable alternative to foil-based materials, according to the vendor.Packaging has improved yield and is lighter weight, yielding lower greenhouse gases and requiring less energy consumption in manufacturing and distribution.

Laminates using Flexi FoilFree HB barrier film also have the look and feel that customers demand from their packaging, without compromising package or product integrity.Packaging produced with Flexi FoilFree HB film retains its defined appearance, even after processing and handling, eliminating a shop-worn appearance.

Another strong benefit of the film laminate is its economical cost. A two- or three-ply Flexi FoilFree HB composite will provide comparable O2 and WVTR barrier properties to more traditional three- and four-ply foil-based laminates, realizing improved material cost, according to the vendor.

Flexi FoilFree HB film is suitable for any product where high oxygen and/or moisture barrier requirements are critical for maintaining the efficacy and shelf life of the product. Applications for the healthcare market include the diagnostics, drug delivery, biotech, and medical device markets.
