Egg Whites Could Help Power Implanted Medical Devices

The technology could also be used in advanced drug delivery.

Scientists have created a dissolvable electric component of a medical device using egg whites, magnesium and tungsten, according to Med Device Online.

The component could be used in advanced drug delivery or dissolvable implants, creating an alternative to traditional ones that usually stay in the body long after the reason they were placed there in the first place.

According to the article, scientists from Zhejiang University in China, along with Cambridge University in the U.K., "developed a memristor — a component of an electrical circuit that regulates current — by embedding magnesium and tungsten electrodes onto an ultra-thin albumen (egg white) film."

The memristor "could work for 3 months in dry settings and be dissolved in water in 3 days."
