Near record lows for medical device recalls

It's been two years since the FDA saw recall numbers this low.

Medical device recalls are near a record lows for the first quarter of 2015, according to a recent article on the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society website citing work done in their magazine Regulatory Focus.

The magazine reviewed the FDA's recall reports by utilizing the agency's new open data platform, openFDA.

"FDA classified just 426 device recalls during the first quarter of 2015," according to the article. "Not since the first quarter of 2013, when it classified 367 recalls, has it classified so few."

The majority of the recalled products were Class II, the article explained.
