The Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council (HCPC) is accepting entries for its HCPC Compliance Package of the Year Awards Competition. The competition recognizes leading pharmaceutical compliance-prompting packaging and is open to all firms involved in compliance/patient reminder pharmaceutical packaging.

The competition dates back to 1995, with previous firms winning the HCPC Compliance Package of the Year competition include Novartis, Pfizer, GSK, BSM, Noven Therapeutics, Mylan, MWV, Information Mediary, Forest Pharmaceuticals, Catalent, PCI, Three Rivers Pharmaceutical, and Sharp.

Entries will be accepted now through February 27, 2015. The HCPC will recognize the Compliance Package of the Year Winners at its annual conference on adherence packaging, RxAdherence 2015, March 31st, 2015 at the Wyndham Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center, Florham Park, New Jersey.

Each year the HCPC solicits entries from the pharmaceutical industry for consideration in its Compliance Package of the Year competition to determine pharmaceutical packages that are best designed to optimize patient adherence. While there is no fee or other monetary requirements to participate, qualifying packages for the Compliance Package of the Year category must: 1) be in a compliance-prompting format with at least one patient adherence assistance feature; 2) have been commercially available – anywhere in the world – during 2014; and 3) not require drug products to be repackaged by patients and 4) be in a child-resistant format, if intended for home use, per CPSC guidelines.

The Awards for products available in the 2014 market year will also include an Innovative Design category for non-commercially available compliance-prompting packaging formats. Qualifying entries for the Innovative Design category must still have at least one feature for assisting patient adherence and also not require repackaging by consumers.

A panel of judges will review each qualifying package and – based on numerical scores awarded by the judges – one package will be named HCPC’s 2014 Compliance Package of the Year and three other packages will be declared First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up and Most Innovative Design, based on the judges’ scores. All entrants receive the judges’ feedback on their designs. Designers of the Compliance Package of the Year, First Runner Up and Most Innovative Design packages will be asked to designate scholarship funding provided by the HCPC. The winners will be on display at various industry exhibitions in which HCPC participates following RxAdherence 2015.

Each winning entry will be honored at RxAdherence 2015, Strategies to Improve Patient Outcomes, March 31, 2015 at the Wyndham Hamilton Hotel and Conference Center, Florham Park, NJ. This annual industry leading conference is now in its 23rd year and is being co-sponsored by Healthcare Packaging and Packaging World. Read more here about this media partnership. Complete competition guidelines and an official entry form are available by visiting www.hcpconline.org or by contacting the HCPC office at 804/338-5778.

In addition, the Compliance Package of the Year, First Runner Up and the Innovative Design winners may select a school of packaging that will receive scholarship funds from the HCPC. The scholarship funding has been a tradition of the HCPC Compliance Package of the Year competition for nearly two decades and has provided more than $60,000 in scholarship funds to such schools as Rutgers, Rochester Institute of Technology, Clemson, Michigan State, San Jose State University, and Western Michigan University.
