Pelican BioThermal, provider of temperature controlled packaging systems, and its parent company Pelican Products, Inc. are teaming up to host blood drives in Minneapolis and Torrance, CA, during the month of July. The drives honor World Blood Donor Day (June 14) and support a critical need for blood as the American Red Cross experiences a severe nationwide supply shortage.

“Through our work with first responders, defense and military, and the broader life sciences industry, we know just how important it is to have a healthy supply of safe blood products available,” said David Williams, president of Pelican BioThermal. “That’s why we’re encouraging those who can to donate now or in the near future.”

Annual blood drives support the goals of both Pelican BioThermal and Pelican Products through community engagement and giving to those in need. During the fourth annual drives in 2019, 42 members of both organizations and their broader communities came forward and selflessly donated enough blood to save 99 lives.

This year’s Pelican BioThermal blood drive took place Tuesday, July 6, at the company’s Plymouth, Minn. location, and the event at Pelican’s Torrance, Calif. headquarters will take place on July 15. The American Red Cross is especially in need of type O donors, which includes the universal and most common blood types.

Pelican BioThermal’s original Golden Hour™ thermal packaging technology was developed for the U.S. Army Special Forces to transport life-saving blood to far forward combat areas. Nearly 20 years later, the company now provides a full range of single-use and reusable temperature controlled packaging that protects mobile blood supplies for blood banks, hospitals, emergency medical personnel and first responders.
