Cardinal Health's Mannford, OK facility needed guidance to get its medical procedural kit packaging back on track-literally. The film used to seal preformed trays of medical instruments often shifted out of alignment with the company's horizontal form/fill/seal machine, resulting in wasted product and time spent rethreading the film. The air displacement web guide from Coast Controls shown here now keeps film from shifting to one side.

MediSeal's expansion focuses on pharmaceuticals
MediSeal GmbH recently completed an expansion at its Schloss Holte, Germany headquarters that extends its production hall (shown) by 1,300 square meters. In addition to an expanded assembly area, separate clean rooms were created for pharmaceutical product filling and packaging under climatically sterile conditions. Ultra-modern equipment in the clean room area is complemented by special safety precautions such as access control and pressure monitoring.

Air-pouch void-fill system packs a big payback
Health Resources LLC of Hueytown, AL, was established in 1995 as a manufacturer of natural health supplements available by mail order. Today, the company offers more than 400 different SKUs, with products that promote a range of health solutions, including joint relief, heart health, reduced inflammation, and better digestion, among many others. In March, the company began running six AirPouch Express 3 air-pouch void-fill systems from Automated Packaging Systems to protect its bottles of product during shipment. The switch to air-pouch void-fill systems from loose-fill peanuts increases productivity, lessens mess, and reduces costs.

Operating room personnel input critical to new peelable chevron header pouch
A nurse/doctor forum convened by Rollprint earlier in the year served as the catalyst for the company's new Duet functional peelable chevron header pouch. Designed to ease pouch access and improve aseptic presentation, the new-generation pouch was developed after operating room physicians and nurses from the Austin, TX, area participated in a packaging focus group. The intent was to glean insight into the pros and cons of existing sterile medical packaging and to better understand what innovative design improvements would help healthcare workers better perform their jobs.
