Since the pandemic, hand sanitizer production has increased exponentially, but so have hand sanitizer recalls. A recent FOX 10 article discussed the latest such recall, which involves Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. Apparently, select lots of the sanitizers are at risk of containing hazardous chemicals. Best Brands Consumer Products, Inc. issued the voluntary recall after the FDA identified benzene in “The Mandalorian” hand sanitizer, and methanol in Mickey Mouse sanitizer.
Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen, which can be life-threatening after “substantial exposure.” Similar exposure to methanol can cause nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, or even death. After investigation, Best Brands determined that the affected lots were already removed from sale in April for unrelated commercial reasons.
