According to a recent Business Insider article, former commissioner of the FDA, Scott Gottlieb, believes the Delta variant will morph the COVID-19 pandemic into an endemic. By definition, a pandemic is classified as a fast-spreading disease outbreak that covers wide swaths of the world. An endemic, on the other hand, refers to an outbreak in a specific region that is always present, but much easier to predict and control, much like a common cold. This may seem like good news, but Gottlieb added, “There’s still going to be a pandemic in a lot of parts of the world where you don’t have high vaccination rates.”
