According to a recent SciTechDaily article, scientists at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania screened thousands of existing drugs to see which ones may be able to treat COVID-19. The goal was to find drugs and drug-like molecules that could inhibit the replication of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2. The team came up with nine possible treatments, including three that are already approved by the FDA for treating other diseases. The research was funded by a host of organizations including the NIH, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
