A recent KSAT.com article reported on a massive FDA recall of hand sanitizers linked to blindness, hospitalizations, and death. In total, the agency is warning consumers against 176 hand sanitizers that may be contaminated with methanol or containing low levels of active ingredients. Exposure to methanol, which is commonly used in fuel, solvents, and antifreeze, can result in “nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.” The full list of products to avoid can be found here.
