A recent Futurity article noted a study designed to examine the risk of prescription opioid misuse in adults over 50 who suffer from chronic pain. The results showed that subjects who attended at least some college were 2.5 times more likely to abuse opioids than those who did not. The results of the 130-participant study also showed that risk of opioid abuse was 13 times higher in illicit drug users, and almost 6 times higher in people with moderate depression.
